Mathias Lincopensis

Life

Mathias of Linköping (ca 1300–1350, also called Mathias Ovidi (Övidsson) or Master Mathias) was the first confessor and spiritual guide of Birgitta of Sweden. He translated the larger part of book I of Birgitta's revelations into Latin, as well as writing an introduction to the work, Prologus magistri Mathie. He wrote several other works on theology, such as Exposicio super Apocalypsim, which is a tract on the Book of Revelations. He also penned the Homo conditus, meant as a handbook to Christian doctrine for priests in the bishopric of Linköping.
