Firenze, Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana, Ashb. 896, early 15th century.

Description

Paper manuscript, 220 x 150 mm. 19 ff.

Includes the Simony office and eight extra Revelations that are normally not part of Tractatus. Ekdal (ed. 1965, p. 38) proposed that this could be a witness to an earlier version of the text, but Jönsson (ed. 1997, p. 25) believes that this collection rather shows the thematic interests of this individual compiler.

Content
  • ff. 1r–18r: Tractatus de summis pontificibus by St. Birgitta (Including: Rev. VI.63, IV.136, 49, 137–143, VII.31, VI.96, IV.144, as well as the addition of the Simony office and Rev. VI.74, 70, IV.33, 10, 5 (extract), 57, 78).

    (Tractatus de summis pontificibus)
  • f. 18v: "Humilis monachus Montisoliueti", follwed by note (see dating).

  • f. 19r: Added page, probably contemporaneous.

Dating
  • Note on 18v dates the manuscript to 1402: "Janue in Monasterio nostro Si Jeronimi di Quarto Riperie diocesis Januensis MºCCCCºIIº." However, Jönsson (ed. 1997, p. 24) believes the manuscript to be a copy.

Provenance
  • Belonged to the Birgittine monastery Maria Scala Coeli (founded in 1406), Genoa.
